Courageous Sailing Center
In summer 2005 my family planned a 2-months-long trip to Boston. I guess that one of the plans was an English full immersion for us (I have three siblings) through summer camps and similar things. That’s when I found Courageous Sailing Center, where I took part in the Instructor In Training program.
Not only this was effectively my first ever job, but was also the best sailing program that I ever got involved with. Courageous thought me that being a sailing instructor is not only about being a good sailor: it is a matter of being an inclusive, compassionate, friendly role model.
Nowhere else I’ve seen a program that follows wannabe instructors for such a long time, coaching them and putting them in controlled situations where they can test their method. Many sailing schools and federations could learn a lot from the approach that they have at Courageous; and I encourage every teenager that wants to turn sailing into a job to join their program.
